Chris Beard, the current head coach of the University of Texas Longhorns men’s basketball team, was reportedly arrested on a felony domestic abuse accusation on December 12.
According to Travis County Sheriff’s Office senior public information officer Kristen Dark, authorities have put 49-year-old Beard into Travis County jail.
Beard, 49, was arrested and detained at 4:18 a.m. CDT in Austin, Texas, on a third-degree felony of “assault of a family/household member, hinder breath circulation,” or strangling. After posting a cash bond, he was released from the Travis County prison at 2:44 p.m. Beard’s bond was set at $10,000.
Beard is allowed to speak with the alleged victim in a non-threatening manner, is required to stay 200 yards away from the property where police were called, and is not authorized to own a handgun.
According to ESPN, cops were summoned to the 1900 block of Vista Lane just after midnight Monday after receiving a “disturbance hotshot” report.
Beard is in the second year of a seven-year contract for more than $5 million each year.
