According to a new report, a missing woman from Washington state was most likely devoured by a “aggressive” shark while snorkeling in Hawaii.
Her husband reportedly saw the potential offender close with “something red” around its gills at the time of the attack, though he apparently didn’t realize it was his wife at the time.
According to the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources on Friday, the 60-year-old woman, whose identity was withheld, was last seen on Dec. 8 while she and her husband were snorkeling at Keawakapu Beach in Maui County.
The woman was killed in a shark attack, according to officials, even though her corpse has not yet officially been found.
When swimming approximately 50 yards off shore, the husband of the missing woman informed authorities that he came across a “aggressive shark.”
He said that he and his wife were not sharing the same snorkeling spot and that he had only sometimes been able to catch a glimpse of her in the minutes before the attack.
In the water and from above, rescuers looked for the lady up until Dec. 9, when they spotted what they thought to be a 10- to 12-foot-long tiger shark swimming nearby.
