A veteran writer for the National Football League (NFL) who had a conversation with the league’s commissioner regarding racial diversity revealed on Monday that the NFL had opted not to extend his contract, according to a new report.
Jim Trotter, who has covered football on a national level since 2014 and has worked for NFL Network since 2018, announced his resignation from the network through Twitter.
Trotter gained a level of infamy for his questioning of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on a variety of topics including concerns of diversity and inclusion within the league.
Trotter questioned Goodell on the predominance of white people in the NFL media in the year 2022.
Trotter expressed his disappointment that despite the fact that 60–70% of the league’s players are black, the media class and higher management are almost entirely white.
The following year, Trotter expressed to Goodell that he had not observed any progress in racial diversity and inquired.
Goodell reminded Trotter that he does not operate the media arm of the league and that the league has made deliberate efforts to increase the racial representation in media coverage.
Goodell also mentioned that the league has made efforts to improve the gender representation in media coverage.
