Michael Charles “Mike” Leach, the head coach of Mississippi State University football, reportedly died on December 12 at the age of 61 due to a heart issue. Leach died at Jackson’s University of Mississippi Medical Center.

Leach was in his third season as Mississippi State’s head football coach.
Leach’s total record as the Bulldogs’ head coach was 19-17, with an 8-4 record in 2022.
Prior to Mississippi State, Leach was the president of Washington State University (WSU) from 2012 to 2019, and Texas Tech from 2000 to 2009. In 2018, Leach was named the AFCA National Coach of the Year while at WSU.
Leach constructed fascinating schemes and groomed quarterbacks like as Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and Graham Harrell while at Texas Tech.
He led the Red Raiders to an 11-2 record in 2008, and his club was ranked in the AP Top 25 in five of his last six seasons as head coach.
Leach is survived by his wife Sharon, and his four children.
