Tajh Boyd, an offensive lineman at Liberty University, reportedly passed away, the university said on Sunday.
Boyd was 19 years old. The reason of death hasn’t been made public yet.
In a letter to the Liberty neighborhood, Flames head football coach Jamey Chadwell and sports director Ian McCaw made the decision.
The league also issued a statement about Boyd’s passing as Liberty will be competing in Conference USA this season.
โIt is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the loss of one of our student-athletes, Tajh Boyd. Tajh joined our Liberty Football family as recently as January and his impact on the program will be felt for years to come,โ the letter read.
โWhen you come to the Mountain, you immediately become a part of the Liberty University family and something truly special. We thank God for bringing Tajh into our Liberty Athletics community and we will always remember him as a Flame. Tajh will be missed dearly.โ it continued.
Boyd, a first-year student at Liberty, participated in football at Chesapeake, Virginia’s Oscar Smith High School.
