A beloved board game with a global following is now reportedly undergoing a transformation to foster a more inclusive and less competitive experience, catering to the preferences of younger generations.
On Tuesday, Mattel, the parent company of Scrabble, made a significant announcement – the first major change in 75 years.
Scrabble Together was created with the aim of attracting a new wave of players who have a different perspective on competition. According to Mattel, their research revealed that younger generations of board gamers in Britain exhibit less competitiveness compared to their older counterparts.
The upcoming release will feature goal cards instead of a scoring system.
The game will also include handy cards that provide prompts and hints, along with the ability to play in teams. Additionally, the game will have a reduced overall duration.
The ultimate victor emerges as the player who successfully conquers a total of 20 formidable challenges.
In this game, the unfortunate outcome befalls the player who exhausts all their helper cards without successfully conquering a challenge.
Scrabble, a game that emerged in 1938, has captivated players worldwide for nearly a century, solidifying its position as one of the most beloved board games.
