Mike Brumley, a former major league infielder, coach, and instructor, reportedly passed away on Saturday night in an automobile accident. He was sixty-one.
Brumley was reported to have died in Mississippi.
Between 1987 and 1995, Brumley was a member of six teams. From 2018 until 2022, he most recently worked with the Atlanta Braves as an instructor and minor league coach.
The news that one of the most significant figures in his career had passed away startled Braves third baseman Austin Riley on Sunday morning.
Before making it to the majors, Bruce was a part of a significant trade after being selected by the Boston Red Sox in the second round of the 1983 draft.
In May 1984, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs for first baseman Bill Buckner along with future bullpen pitcher Dennis Eckersley.
In addition to playing with the Detroit Tigers (1989), Mariners (1991–1992), Red Sox (1991–1992), Houston Astros (1993, 1995), and Oakland Athletics (1994), Brumley made his main level debut with Chicago in 1987.
In 295 major league games, Brumley batted.206 with three home runs and 38 RBIs.
In addition, he worked as a minor league instructor with the Texas Rangers from 2005 to 2007 and the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2009 to 2014 before joining the Cubs as a coach.
