Former NFL Player Turned Republican Beats Democrat to Win State Senate Seat

Posted on November 9, 2022

Corey Simon, a former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman, will become a Republican Florida state senator after winning his contest in Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Simon defeated incumbent Democrat Loranne Ausley for the seat in Florida’s Senate District 3 on Tuesday night with around 53% of the vote.

The freshly elected senator was selected sixth overall by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2000.

From 2000 to 2004, he was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. He later played for the Indianapolis Colts and the Tennessee Titans.

With over 200,000 ballots cast, Simon defeated Ausley by huge margins in 11 of 13 counties.

Senate District 3 in Florida includes much of the panhandle.
