Legendary golfer Lexi Thompson has declared her intention to retire from full-time professional golf after the 2024 LPGA Tour. Many, including myself, were taken aback by the announcement, as she had recently celebrated her 29th birthday.
Nevertheless, Thompson is departing the sport with an impressive résumé.
Prior to the U.S. Women’s Open this week, Thompson disclosed the information to the media via the USGA. She intends to discuss her retirement with the media on Tuesday afternoon.

Thompson, who has been a golf professional since the age of 15, is making her 18th consecutive appearance at the U.S. Women’s Open. She played her first Open at the age of 12 in 2007.
She was the youngest person to ever qualify for the U.S. Women’s Open at the time. In total, Thompson has participated in 64 major championships, winning the 2014 Chevron Championship and finishing in the Top 10 of 18 tournaments.
In addition to her solitary major title, she has also secured 10 additional LPGA Tour championships. She was instrumental in the United States’ two victories in the Solheim Cup, having represented the country on six occasions.
