Tenacious D, an American comedy-rock duo featuring actor Jack Black, declared on Tuesday that all future plans were on hold and the remaining portion of their tour would be canceled following an indiscreet remark made by band member Kyle Gass about the assassination attempt on former President Donald J. Trump while they were performing.
A spokesman for the pair verified that Black had celebrated Gass’s 64th birthday on Sunday by bringing out a cake at the ICC Sydney Theater in Australia.
“Don’t miss Trump next time,” Gass said in response to Black’s request for him to “make a wish.”
Videos captured the scene and then became viral on the internet.
Greene Talent, Gass’s talent agency, and Michael Greene announced their separation on Tuesday.
The band, which has been together since 1994, had changed the date of their Tuesday show in Broadmeadow, Australia, just before it was announced that the entire tour was canceled.
Senator Ralph Babet of the center-right United Australia party demanded that the two be deported following Gass’s remarks made onstage.
