Motorcyclist Dies After Temperature Soars to Unbelievable High in National Park

Posted on July 8, 2024

It’s possible that Saturday’s record-breaking heat in Death Valley National Park contributed to the death of one motorcycle rider and the hospitalization of another.

Given that four other riders in the same group received treatment for “heat stress,” it is thought that the unidentified motorcyclist passed away from heat exposure. On Saturday

The gang was reportedly riding close to Badwater Basin, where, on the weekend, temperatures hit a “mind-boggling” 121°F around 10:00 p.m., according to meteorologist Colin McCarthy.

It is an exceptionally hot night in Death Valley where it is currently 121°F (49.4°C) at 10 pm.

The “Extreme Summer Heat” advisory from the National Park Service advises travelers against hiking after 10:00 a.m. because temperatures could reach as high as 130°F or 100°F. Online images of the park’s unauthorized temperature gauge indicate that 2024 has already exceeded 130°F.
