A shark assaulted a British gentleman in the Caribbean on Friday, compelling the government of Trinidad & Tobago to shut down seven beaches as a consequence.
Peter Smith, aged 64, was swimming around 30 feet away from the coast in Courland Bay, Trinidad & Tobago, when he was assaulted by a bull shark.
He is presently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Scarborough General Hospital on the island and is in a stable condition.

According to Chief Secretary Farley Augustine of the Tobago House of Assembly, Smith had “substantial injuries” and required the reattachment of several fingers.
Reportedly, the bull shark that attacked Smith measured approximately 10 feet in length and 2 feet in width.
Bull sharks are often regarded as the most perilous kind of shark due to their combative nature and inclination to navigate inland waterways.
