According to data given in a new report by Newsweek, due to the ongoing boycott against the company for their commercial collaboration with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, Bud Light is no longer the most popular beer in America.
Circana/IRI sales figures show that Modelo Especial overtook Bud Light as the nation’s top beer at the end of May.
Modelo sales increased by 15.6% from the same four weeks in 2022 to $333 million, while Bud Light sales decreased by 22.8% to $297 million.
Sales for the Mexican brand were around $341.9 million in the week ending May 27, against about $298.6 million for Bud Light, according to information from Bump Williams Consulting that was used by the source.
In terms of sales in 2023, Bud Light continues to outperform Modelo with 9.1% of the overall market value versus Modelo’s 8%.
Sales of Bud Light started to decline at the beginning of April as a result of conservatives’ decision to boycott the company over their advertising campaign featuring transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
