An unauthorized dugout at a child baseball field collapsed on Angel Mercado-Ocasio, a freshman college baseball shortstop for the Central Penn College Knights, reportedly killing him in a bizarre accident, according to TMZ. He was only 19 years old.
According to Matt Maisel, a spokesman for the City of Harrisburg, Mercado-Ocasio was tearing down an illegally constructed dugout at the field. However, a portion of the dugout fell on him while he was in the process of removing it.
After the incident, Mercado-Ocasio was transported to a nearby hospital, but regrettably, the Cumberland County coroner declared him dead on Tuesday night.
According to reporter Tom Lehman of WGAL (Lancaster, PA), Mercado-Ocasio passed away due to a brain injury.
Teammates and friends of 19-year-old Angel Mercado-Ocasio say they're devastated by his death.
