Stephen Colbert, the late-night entertainer, erroneously asserted that Republican Michigan gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon cooked up a tale concerning improper pornographic content in school libraries.
Colbert presented a clip from Dixon’s debate with Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in which she recounted an unidentified father who stated that his son’s school library had information instructing youngsters how to have sex.
The claim was mocked by the late-night presenter, who accused the man in her story of being a fabrication of her imagination.
However the tables were soon turned when Colbert discovered that the story was actually true.
“OK, fine. That happened. But even if it did, if someone found a book that didn’t like the school library, why would they go to the Democrats?” Colbert said.
However, the man, 41-year-old Khalil Othman, corroborated the gubernatorial candidate’s allegation to the Detroit Free Press.
Othman than blasted Colbert’s attempt to dismiss his story during a campaign rally in Dearborn.
“I told his story (during the debate). And Stephen Colbert picks it up … And they make this whole skit about how this has never happened. That’s what he said, this story never happened. That’s where the Democrats are right now. You don’t exist, your stories are not important.” Othman said.
