Clarence Gilyard, a seasoned actor who appeared in films such as Die Hard, Matlock, and Walker, Texas Ranger before going on to become a theater professor and author, has reportedly died.
He was 66 years old.
Gilyard’s death was confirmed Monday afternoon by the University of Nevada Las Vegas College of Fine Arts, where he lectured.
He had been ailing for quite some time. No other information was provided.
Gilyard found success in cinema, television, and on stage during the course of a five-decade career. He is likely best known to moviegoers for his portrayal of Theo, Hans Gruber’s arrogant computer hacker in 1988’s Die Hard.
He was a regular figure on primetime television in the 1990s, first as private investigator Conrad McMasters on the legal drama Matlock.
Another major long-running role Gilyard took on was as Ranger James Trivette on the long-running show Walker, Texas Ranger.
