In the aftermath of a swatting incident at the residence of actress Jennifer Aniston in Los Angeles, California, law enforcement officials are reportedly conducting an investigation.
Last Friday, the police received a distressing phone call that prompted them to conduct a welfare check at the address supplied. It was later discovered that the address belonged to Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston.
According to TMZ, law enforcement received a call from an individual who purportedly expressed concern for their acquaintance, stating that they were “not doing well” and making references to depression and other worrying issues.
The anonymous caller requested a welfare check on their “friend,” supplying an address but no name. Consequently, both parties were taken aback by the circumstances when the authorities arrived at Aniston’s residence.
The police observed that this was the moment they realized the residence they were in. Subsequently, they contacted Aniston and inquired about her condition.
The 55-year-old clarified that she was unharmed and that there was no possibility of her injuring herself, as the caller had suggested.
These types of incidents are referred to as “swatting,” a criminal harassment offense in which an individual submits a fraudulent report to the authorities, resulting in the dispatch of an emergency response team to the intended victim’s residence.
In addition to Aniston, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, and others have been reported as victims of swatting.
