According to authorities, a man in Island Park, Idaho, shot and killed a grizzly bear that had charged his girlfriend in front of their residence.
The couple was scheduled to return home on June 6.
They exited the vehicle and proceeded to their residence on foot. The girlfriend then shrieked as she observed a bear running toward her.
As he was removing items from his vehicle, the man retrieved his shotgun. According to the agency, he discharged the weapon at the grizzly as it was charging.
Subsequently, the Idaho Department of Fish and Game received a dispatch regarding the presence of a deceased bear in close proximity to a roadway.
The agency determined that the individual acted in order to protect the lives of himself and his girlfriend.
