Margot Robbie, an actress, will reportedly oversee the production of a film that brings the popular board game Monopoly to life.
The 33-year-old celebrity, along with her husband Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, will distribute the project under their LuckyChap banner, according to IndieWire. Lionsgate will distribute the picture, which will be produced by Hasbro Entertainment.
The announcement was delivered on Wednesday morning as part of Lionsgate’s CinemaCon 2024 presentation.
Monopoly, created by Hasbro, is a multiplayer board game with an economics theme that was first released in 1935.
The widely popular game includes a vast array of diverse editions and spinoffs, and it is available for purchase in over 100 countries and translated into 75 distinct languages.
Approximately 275 million units of Monopoly have been sold globally, according to estimates.
According to the source, Hasbro Entertainment currently has over 30 ongoing projects in various stages of development.
These include an animated series called “Transformers One” and a live-action series based on “Dungeons & Dragons” for Paramount+.
LuckyChap is now involved in the production of a film based on the widely popular life simulation video game, The Sims.
Robbie portrayed the main character in the highly anticipated film “Barbie” released in the summer of 2023.
The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, achieved immense success by earning $1.4 billion in box office revenue and receiving eight Academy Award nominations.
